Infantino has faced intense criticism and calls to resign after it was revealed he intended to create a new company separate from the Swiss-based nonprofit in charge of international football. FIFA Forward Enterprise would have controlled the commercial rights to FIFA events, encompassing broadcasting, sponsorship, ticketing, licensing, and related businesses.
Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner, was set to be the main investor in this contentious project.
The FIFA president retracted the proposal following days of backlash but has remained defiant as British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and European football governing body UEFA have suggested he resign.
“If he is gone, [FIFA] will never be as successful or profitable again,” Trump commented.
