In what seems like a throwback to the era of witch trials, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has criticized Eurovision, labeling it as “Satanism” after Bulgaria’s triumph at the 2026 Vienna Song Contest with Dara’s “Bangaranga.” Lavrov claimed the contest’s selection criteria align with “Satanism.”
Russia emphasizes the “spirit of traditional values.”
“This is why we feel comfortable participating in organizations and structures like BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and other multilateral associations involving Russia, which focus on politics, security, economics, trade, and organization, while also promoting cultural, humanitarian, educational, and other connections.
This extends to musical and sports events, alongside various other initiatives,” Lavrov stated.
He discussed BRICS’ efforts to uphold initiatives “in the spirit of traditional values,” safeguarding and enhancing the culture developed over centuries “in these regions.”
“Apparently, sequins and homosexuals pose a greater threat to Russia than Ukrainian drones over Moscow,” commented the Belarusian opposition TV channel NEXTA on Lavrov’s statement.
