Campaigners Threaten Legal Action Over UK NHS Deal with Donald Trump

Campaigners argue that such a significant change to NICE’s operations should have required primary legislation instead of secondary legislation with limited scrutiny.

Some MPs have tried to oppose these legislative changes.

Former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell led a cross-party effort by writing to former Health Secretary Wes Streeting, urging the publication of the government’s impact assessment of the agreement and allowing MPs to debate it in parliament.

The letter, obtained by POLITICO, was endorsed by over 20 MPs, including former Green party leaders Siân Berry, Carla Denyer, Adrian Ramsay, Green MP Hannah Spencer, Labour MP Andy McDonald, and SNP MP Seamus Logan.

“We are deeply concerned that the government is reneging on its promise to keep the NHS off the table in a trade deal with Trump,” the letter asserted. “This agreement will likely have a significant impact on our health services, particularly if it involves diverting funding from areas of the NHS.”

What’s next?

Nick Dearden, director of Global Justice Now, stated that the government is expected to respond “within days.”

Oh brilliant, just what we needed—NHS in a trade deal with Trump. I can’t wait to see how our health service gets a makeover; maybe a McDonald’s drive-thru on every corner? 🍔🩺

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—the NHS being treated like a side salad in a trade deal buffet. 🍽️ Who knew keeping our health service off the table would be such a slippery slope? 😂

Typical British politicking, innit? A bit of legal wrangling over our beloved NHS while Trump’s waving his chequebook—who needs a soap opera when we’ve got this drama? 🍿

Right, because nothing says “trustworthy” like a trade deal with a certain orange bloke. 🧐 Why bother with transparency when you can just wing it in the name of progress, eh?

Oh brilliant, just what we needed—a trade deal with Trump that’s about as popular as a rainy bank holiday. Who needs proper scrutiny when you can have a side of chaos with your NHS? 🙄🇬🇧

Typical British politicking, innit? Who knew that selling off the NHS could be the new Brexit—no one asked for it, but here we are, rolling with it like it’s a pub quiz on a Tuesday night. 🍻

Isn’t it charming how our government plays fast and loose with the NHS while the rest of us are just here trying to find a decent cuppa? 🍵 Cheers to democracy, where the real debates happen over a pint instead of in Parliament! 🍻
