EU designates Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization

Brussels – The EU has officially classified Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. This designation was agreed upon during a meeting of foreign ministers from EU member states in Brussels on Thursday.

Sweden’s foreign minister Maria Malmer Stenergard expressed her support for the decision, stating, “This sends a strong political message that I believe impacts the regime, while also providing vital encouragement to the courageous Iranian women and men who are fighting for their freedom and rights,” she told TT.

The agreement follows the withdrawal of opposition from several countries, including France, Spain, and Italy, who had previously expressed concerns that such a designation might hinder diplomatic relations with Iran.

While the terrorist designation is largely symbolic, the EU already has existing sanctions in place, including the freezing of potential assets and a prohibition on economic relations with the Revolutionary Guard.

Additional sanctions are now being implemented, bringing the total number of individuals and organizations in Iran subject to EU sanctions to over 300.

Seems like the EU finally decided to give the Revolutionary Guard a nice little label to stick on their resume. Because nothing says “we mean business” quite like a symbolic designation, right? 😏💼

Funny how the EU thinks a label is gonna scare off the Revolutionary Guard—like slapping a “Do Not Enter” sign on a highway! 🛣️🚫

Just what we needed, another ‘symbolic’ gesture from Brussels—because who doesn’t love a good label? 😂 Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Guard is probably shaking in their boots over this one, right? 🥴

Gotta love the timing of this EU decision—nothing says “diplomacy” like slapping a terrorist label on your dinner guest just as they’re about to leave the table! 🍷🇪🇺

  5. Just what we needed, another symbolic gesture from the EU! 🙄 I suppose next they’ll be handing out gold stars for playing nice… or not.

Fancy a bit of political theatre, eh? Just what we needed—more paperwork to remind us that the EU can still throw around labels like a toddler with a crayon. 🎨✍️

Just what we needed, another symbolic gesture from the EU! I mean, who doesn’t love an extra layer of bureaucracy while sipping their café au lait? ☕️😏

  8. Oh great, just what we need—more paperwork and a fancy label for a group that’s already on every blacklist imaginable. 🎩 Guess we’ll see how much the “strong political message” helps while they sip tea in Tehran! ☕️
