Attempted Murder Charge Following Stabbing of Jewish Men in London

Suleiman has been charged with attempted murder related to a separate incident in central London on the same date. He remains in police custody and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Helen Flanagan, the Met’s counter-terror lead, stated, “Our thoughts remain with the victims involved and specialist officers continue to provide support as they recover.”

“We are committed to securing justice for the victims, and as charges have been filed, I urge everyone to refrain from speculation to allow justice to proceed.”

Suleiman, a British national born in Somalia who moved to the U.K. in the 1990s, was referred to the Prevent counter-extremism program in 2020, although the case was closed that year.

This charge follows an increase in the U.K.’s terror threat level from “substantial” to “severe” on Thursday evening, indicating an attack is “highly likely” in the next six months. The government, responding to pressure after a series of attacks on Jews in the U.K., has pledged an additional £25 million for police patrols and security for Jewish communities.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley told Times Radio that Britain is experiencing a “growing pandemic of antisemitism” and his officers are “addressing the symptoms of this issue.”
