Brussels: France Has the Right to Prohibit Social Networks for Under-15s

Paris – Thomas Regnier, spokesperson for the European executive, stated that “the French authorities have the right to set a digital age of majority for their citizens.”

He emphasized that while major online platforms must adhere to national laws, the responsibility to ensure compliance and implement effective age verification systems rests with the Commission.

If France enacts such a law in accordance with European regulations, “the Commission will ensure that the large platforms comply,” Regnier noted, mentioning that several European nations, including France, are currently piloting an age verification application for this purpose.

This trial is expected to conclude by the end of the year.

Emmanuel Macron expressed gratitude on X to the European Commission for facilitating the move towards a ban on social networks for those under 15, following the guidelines for the protection of minors established last July after France’s advocacy. (27 January 2026)

Right, because nothing says “protecting the youth” like a government body deciding which social networks they can’t use—cheers to progress, eh? 🙄🎉

Oh brilliant, just what we need—kids missing out on cat memes and influencer drama because some suits in Paris think they know best! 🙄 Just wait till they find out the world doesn’t stop at 15! 🍷

Oh, brilliant! Because nothing says “I care about our youth” quite like wrapping them in cotton wool and banning their social life before they even hit puberty. 😏 #ProgressivePolicies

Right, because nothing says “we trust our youth” like treating them like toddlers in a candy shop. 🍭 Maybe next they’ll ban reading for under-15s—after all, we wouldn’t want them getting any funny ideas! 😂

So, France is gonna save the kids from social media—because, you know, nothing screams ‘protection’ like a good ol’ government ban. 😏 At this rate, we might as well put them in a bubble wrap suit until they’re 30!

So, France is making sure the kiddos stay off the social media while the politicians tweet away—brilliant move, really. Just what we need: a digital babysitter! 😂

Just what we needed, eh? A ban on social networks for the under-15s—because clearly, the kids have been too busy scrolling instead of doing their French homework! 😂📚

Isn’t it just grand? France finally found something more controversial than their cheese – banning social networks for the kiddos! 🙄 Can’t wait for the next law: mandatory berets for all under-15s! 🥖💁‍♂️

  15. Typical France, always keen on protecting the youth… unless it’s from their own cuisine. 🍷 Let’s hope this age verification is more effective than their wine labels! 🍷🙄

  16. Typical France, always finding a way to protect the kids from their own boredom. Next, they’ll ban the Internet altogether—good luck with that! 😂👋
