Košta: EU Stands United in Support of Denmark and Greenland; Emergency Summit to Follow

BRUSSELS – European Council President Antonio Košta announced that he will call for an extraordinary meeting of the European Council in the coming days to discuss the situation regarding Greenland. He reaffirmed Brussels’ commitment to international law, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty. “Given the significance of recent developments and the need for further coordination, I have decided to convene an extraordinary meeting of the European Council shortly,” Košta stated in a post on social media platform X.

He noted that the EU stands united in its support for Denmark and Greenland. Following discussions about the tensions surrounding Greenland, Košta mentioned that EU member states recognize that maintaining peace and security in the Arctic is a shared transatlantic interest, particularly through NATO collaboration. He pointed out that member states believe imposing tariffs would jeopardize transatlantic relations and conflict with the EU-US trade agreement, while emphasizing the Union’s determination to protect itself from any form of coercion.

Košta highlighted the EU’s willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with the United States on all matters of mutual concern. US President Donald Trump recently threatened to impose a 10 percent tariff starting February 1 on goods from the UK, Norway, and six EU nations involved in Arctic military exercises in Greenland, until an agreement is made regarding the US purchase of Greenland. Blimey, a summit about Greenland? Must be a slow week in Brussels! 😏 Can’t wait to see how many cups of coffee it takes to solve all that Arctic drama! ☕️🌍

  2. Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “we’re on top of international relations” like an emergency summit about a place no one can find on a map. 🇩🇰🌍 Let’s keep those tariffs at bay while we sip espresso and discuss the Arctic over some fine Danish pastries, shall we? 😏

Oh, splendid! Nothing says ‘we’re serious about international law’ quite like an emergency summit over a chunk of ice. 😂 Must be nice to be at the top of the agenda while the rest of us are just trying to keep our own icebergs from melting!

Looks like Košta’s organizing yet another chat fest while the Arctic’s heating up faster than our coffee. 🤷‍♂️ Can’t wait to see how many more summits it takes to solve a problem that could be settled over a pint or two! 🍻

Looks like Košta’s organising a summit to discuss Greenland while we’re all just trying to figure out how to keep our coffee warm in this freezing Brussel’s weather. 😂 Maybe they’ll serve biscuits to keep the mood light while they resolve the Arctic drama! 🍪

Oh brilliant, another emergency summit! Because nothing says “we’re in control” like gathering a bunch of politicians to discuss something nobody really wants to buy anyway. 🤦‍♂️✈️

  7. Couldn’t be more thrilled to see our leaders convening while Greenland’s getting tossed around like a hot potato! 🍟📈 Let’s see if they can hash it out over some fine Danish pastries—might need them. 🥐

Looks like another thrilling episode of “EU Diplomacy: The Arctic Edition.” Who knew sitting around a table discussing Greenland could be more exciting than watching paint dry? 🍿😏

  9. Oh, brilliant! Nothing like an extraordinary summit to solve extraordinary problems—because, you know, just a regular meeting would be far too pedestrian for such pressing matters! 🙄🧐

  10. Oh splendid, another summit to discuss Greenland – because what the world really needs is more politicians in a room debating ice and territory. 🌍🥶 Just what I was looking forward to this week!

Oh great, another summit to discuss the Arctic—because nothing screams “urgent” like a meeting about icebergs and trade tariffs. 🥶💼

Oh, brilliant! An emergency summit for Greenland, because nothing says “we’re on top of things” like a bunch of suits gathering to discuss icebergs and tariffs. 😂 I mean, who needs actual solutions when we can just hold meetings, right?

Oh great, another emergency summit, just what we need – because clearly, we haven’t solved enough problems over a cup of coffee in Brussels yet! ☕️🌍

  14. Oh splendid, an emergency summit! Just what we need—more politicians in a room debating how to keep Greenland a bit less chilly while the rest of us are freezing our socks off! 🤦‍♂️

  15. Looks like Košta is really rolling out the red carpet for Greenland, eh? Next, we’ll have an emergency summit for who gets the last croissant at breakfast! 🥐😏
