Corruption Allegations Shake Cyprus During EU Presidency

A public confirmation of the real identity behind the account could not be found.

The video features ex-Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis and Charalambos Charalambous, the director of the president’s office.

It depicts Lakkotrypis as a liaison for those seeking to connect with Christodoulides, discussing processes for contributions exceeding the €1 million campaign limit.

Lakkotrypis claimed the video manipulates his words to misrepresent discussions and harm both Cyprus and himself, and he has reported this to the police. The police have initiated an investigation, as confirmed by spokesperson Vyron Vyronos to the Cyprus News Agency.

Charalambous, the president’s brother-in-law, is also shown in the video, outlining access to the presidential palace. He mentions they are primary contacts at the palace and describes approaching the president with proposals and funds for social contributions.

Charalambous has not released an official statement.

  1. Who knew Cyprus had a reality show in the making? 🇨🇾 Seems like the only thing more inflated than the campaign contributions is the drama! 😏

Just what we needed, more drama in the sunny isle of Cyprus—who knew the presidential palace doubled as a casting call for a new political soap opera? 🍿 Looks like honesty isn’t just a rare commodity; it’s practically a myth! 😂

  3. Corruption allegations? In Cyprus? Shocking! I thought we were all just sipping ouzo and playing tavli while the politicians exchanged ‘social contributions.’ 😂🍷

Blimey, who knew politics in Cyprus was less about serving the people and more about serving up a hearty plate of scandal on a silver platter? 🍽️ Just another day in paradise, eh? 😏

Just another day in paradise, where the only thing thicker than the Mediterranean fog is the layer of corruption. Who knew the presidential palace doubled as a fundraising office? 😂💰

Well, isn’t this just a jolly good time in Cyprus? Who needs a plot twist in a telenovela when you have a video scandal with more characters than a Greek tragedy? 😂

  7. Just what we needed, a little drama to spice up our EU presidency! Who knew political contributions could be a contact sport? 😂💰

Oh, lovely to see our leadership in action, negotiating “contributions” like it’s a quaint little farmers’ market. Who needs transparency when you have a family affair at the presidential palace? 😂

  9. Just another day in paradise, where “contributions” are the new bread and butter! 😂 Bet they’ll find out the “real identity” of the video faster than I can say “euros for favors!”

So, Cyprus is at it again, eh? Seems like the only thing getting more contributions than the presidency is the circus act of it all! 🎪💰

  14. Just what we needed, more ‘creative financing’ lessons from our esteemed leaders. Can’t wait to see how this one plays out—perhaps a reality show called “Keeping Up with the Cypriots?” 😅💸

Looks like Cyprus is giving us a masterclass in political theatre—who knew the EU presidency included a side gig in scandalous soap operas? 🍿 Just what we needed, more “contributions” to our already overflowing corruption fund! 😏
