Ljubljana – The Slovenian Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has granted approval for cohesion funds for the “Let’s Enter the Digital Space” project initiated by the Slovenian Geodetic Administration. This initiative, valued at 9.4 million euros, aims to digitize geospatial data and will receive 5.3 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund.
According to the Ministry of Cohesion, the “Let’s Enter the Digital Space” project is centered on developing advanced digital solutions for the collection, analysis, and utilization of geospatial data, marking a significant advancement in Slovenia’s digital transformation.
The primary objective is to create a national geospatial digital twin—a virtual representation of the physical environment that allows for real-time event monitoring, analysis, simulations, and forecasts of spatial changes.
An advanced digital data system will be established using cutting-edge technologies, including laser scanning (lidar), aerial photography, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. This system is expected to provide accurate, timely information regarding spatial conditions, enhancing decision-making in spatial planning, real estate management, disaster response, crisis situations, and sustainable development planning.
Through the development of this digital twin, Slovenia aims to align with the Digital Slovenia 2030 strategy, which identifies the establishment of a digital twin as a key initiative for accelerating digital innovations and enhancing public service efficiency. Additionally, the project will foster the creation of sophisticated digital solutions and services leveraging geospatial data, artificial intelligence, multidimensional models, and modern visualizations.
