Paris – With just four days remaining before a meeting in Brussels regarding the automotive industry’s future, over 150 companies are delivering a strong message to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: “Stand firm, do not waver. Keep the goal” of zero emissions by 2035.
The letter features signatures from electric vehicle manufacturers (Volvo, Polestar), European battery producers (Verkor, Samsung, LG Energy), charging network operators (Fastned, Ionity, Alpitronic), material suppliers (Talga, Orano, Rock Tech Lithium), and energy network managers (Iberdrola, EDP).
The forthcoming ban on the sale of new gasoline or diesel vehicles, including hybrids, in the EU by 2035 has faced opposition from some manufacturers who are struggling with slow sales of electric vehicles, increasing competition from China, American tariffs, and declining global profits.
