UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric provided updates on UNIFIL’s activities and humanitarian support for those displaced by Israeli-Hezbollah hostilities. He noted peacekeepers observed 143 projectile trajectories on Thursday, 119 from Israel and the rest from Hezbollah, with no Lebanese airspace violations. On Wednesday, they saw 364 launches, 330 from Israel and 34 from Hezbollah, plus 38 airspace violations.
Peacekeepers are witnessing extensive Israeli ground activities. A UNIFIL convoy was blocked by two Israeli tanks in Tiri on Wednesday; one tank aimed at a UNIFIL vehicle, causing the convoy to halt and reverse before taking an alternate route.
Dujarric emphasized peacekeepers’ need for unrestricted movement, acting on behalf of the Security Council.
UN Deputy Special Coordinator Imran Riza and UNIFIL head Major General Diodato Abagnara met Lebanese leaders to reaffirm commitment to full implementation of Resolution 1701, aimed at stability in south Lebanon.
UNIFIL facilitated nine humanitarian missions on Wednesday. UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher announced an additional $12 million from CERF for displaced persons, facilitating healthcare, protection from gender-based violence, and addressing food insecurity.
Nearly 50,000 people returned to their homes in Nabatieh and South Governorates since the ceasefire, but more than 106,000 remain in collective sites, with many unable to return due to insecurity, destruction, and limited services.
