Slovak Interior Minister: Brussels Bureaucrats Will Not Determine Deployment of Slovak Troops

Bratislava – The decision regarding the deployment of Slovak soldiers will not be made by bureaucrats in Brussels. This was asserted by the Minister of the Interior of the Slovak Republic and leader of Hlas-SD, Matúš Šutaj Eštok, in a social media video on Tuesday, highlighting Slovakia’s sovereignty and independence. His remarks were in response to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s statement about Europe preparing a “fairly detailed plan” for the deployment of multinational units to Ukraine as part of post-war security guarantees, as reported by TASR.

“I want to make it clear that Slovak soldiers will not go to Ukraine. As long as we are part of the government, such a decision will not pass through us, and we will not allow it,” emphasized Matúš Šutaj Eštok.

The minister expressed confidence that Slovak soldiers would defend their homeland with resolve in the event of an attack. However, he believes it is unacceptable for them to sacrifice their lives in Ukrainian trenches for foreign geopolitical interests.

The Hlas leader stated that the priority is to ensure the security of Slovakia and its citizens. “The future of Slovakia will be decided by the Slovak government and parliament. No one else will determine our fate, especially on matters that reside solely within our competence,” he asserted.

Ursula von der Leyen mentioned in an interview with the Financial Times that Europe is formulating a “fairly detailed plan” for deploying multinational units to Ukraine within the scope of post-war security guarantees. The potential deployment could involve tens of thousands of European soldiers, supported by the United States with command and control systems, intelligence, and surveillance capabilities. This agreement was reportedly reached during a meeting last month involving Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and representatives from European nations. (September 2)

“Slovak soldiers will not go to Ukraine. As long as we are part of the government, such a decision will not pass through us, and we will not allow it. The future of Slovakia will be decided by the Slovak government and the Slovak parliament. No one else will decide for us.” Matúš Šutaj Eštok.

Of course, because what could be better than a minister making it crystal clear that Slovakia’s defense strategy is firmly rooted in “local expertise” rather than those pesky Brussels bureaucrats? 🙄 Just what we need, more politicians proving that independence is just another word for saying “not my problem”!

  2. Seems like the interior minister thinks he’s got a crystal ball to predict the future of Slovak troops, while Brussels is just handing out advice like it’s free Wi-Fi. Classic Slovakia, always ready to take the scenic route on the road to independence! 😂🚕

Oh, brilliant! I guess Slovakia is the new Switzerland, eh? Who needs Brussels when you can have your own little fortress of solitude? 😂

Looks like someone’s been sipping too much coffee in Bratislava—nothing says “sovereignty” like a social media rant while the rest of Europe is drafting plans over tea and biscuits. 🍵💼

  5. Seems like the Slovak Interior Minister has forgotten that being in the EU means we’re all in this together—who knew sovereignty was just a fancy term for “not my circus, not my monkeys”? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next time he’ll just send a postcard to Brussels instead of making a fuss!

Looks like the Slovak Interior Minister thinks Brussels is about as welcome as a rainy day in July. Classic move, asserting sovereignty while dodging the EU’s “helpful” plans—must be nice to have all that independence to keep soldiers at home, eh? 😏✌️

Looks like the interior minister thinks he’s the grand puppeteer while Brussels just plays the fiddle. Who knew Slovakia had its own version of ‘no foreign influence allowed’ – must be a bold new strategy for European diplomacy! 😂

Oh, look at that, the Interior Minister wants to play the role of a superhero, defending Slovakia from the evil Brussels bureaucrats! Who knew our brave soldiers were so precious they can’t even be trusted to carry an IKEA assembly manual outside their borders? 😂

  9. Seems like the Minister’s got a real knack for playing the sovereign card—who needs Brussels when you can just keep the soldiers cozy at home, right? 😏🇸🇰

  10. Oh, how noble of Mr. Eštok to keep those bureaucrats in Brussels at bay—next, he’ll be telling us that Slovak soldiers are actually trained in knitting for peace negotiations! 😄

Looks like our dear Minister thinks Slovakia’s got more say in the matter than Brussels – good luck with that, mate! 😏 Next, he’ll be telling the EU to take a hike while he’s at it!

Seems like Matúš has finally found the magic recipe for sovereignty: just sprinkle a bit of defiance on those Brussels bureaucrats! 😂 Who knew being a minister meant you can just say “not my circus, not my monkeys” and call it a day?

  13. Seems like Slovakia’s interior minister thinks he’s the captain of a ship sailing away from Brussels’ stormy waters. I mean, who needs European cooperation when you can just play the sovereignty card like a vintage vinyl? 🎶🇸🇰

Typical Slovak bravado, eh? 🚫🪖 It’s almost as if he thinks Brussels cares about his opinion—bless his heart! 😏

Looks like Matúš is channeling his inner monarch, declaring that Brussels will have to wait in line for Slovakia’s royal decree. Next, he’ll be announcing a national holiday for “Sovereignty Appreciation Day” – how very avant-garde! 🇸🇰👑

Classic! Nothing screams “sovereignty” like a minister’s video declaration while the big wigs in Brussels are drawing up plans like it’s a weekend BBQ. 🇸🇰🍖
