Enercom Worker, 29, Rescued from Genk Wind Turbine

Genk (Eurotoday) – On Friday, Aug 29, 2025, at 3:30 PM, a 29-year-old Enercom worker from Mol was trapped at 100m on a Genk wind turbine. Rescued by East Limburg fire, now hospitalised; investigation ongoing.

As HBVL News reported, on Friday afternoon, Aug 29, 2025, around 3:30 PM, a 29-year-old man from Mol became trapped while working on a wind turbine along Henry Fordlaan in Genk. He is an employee of Enercom, a company that carries out maintenance on wind turbines.

The man was doing repairs to a turbine engine with a coworker at Genk-Zuid industrial estate, working about 100 meters above the ground, when his arm got caught in moving gears. The cause of the accident is currently unknown. His colleague called for an ambulance right away.

What happened to the Enercom worker trapped on the Genk wind turbine?

Emergency services were alerted immediately after the accident at the wind turbine along Henry Fordlaan in Genk. Teams arrived quickly to assist the trapped worker. Responders included an ambulance and a mosquito net. The East Limburg fire department deployed 4 specialised vehicles to support the rescue. A trained crew positioned themselves at the top of the turbine to help the man.

Authorities stated that, if necessary, amputation could be a last resort to free the worker, according to Mark Mons, spokesperson for the labour auditor’s office. The police force of Carma is now in place to ensure safety and to have control of the situation.

The labour inspectorate will soon be submitting a report regarding the incident. When the worker receives the necessary care on scene, he will be evacuated and flown by helicopter to the hospital for further care.

An accident also happened in 2018 on the Rentel offshore wind farm in the Belgian North Sea. A wind turbine engineer reached into a rotating brake disc to check safety pins while the turbine was still powered. His arm became trapped and was traumatically amputated. The worker later sued his employer, and a UK court found the company mostly responsible, awarding him compensation.
