Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson to Attend Coalition of the Willing Meeting Virtually

Stockholm (Eurotoday) – Sweden Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will participate virtually in Sunday’s gathering with the “Coalition of the Willing”, before President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the US on Monday, according to a spokesperson from the prime minister’s office, reported Reuters.

This European leaders’ arrangement follows a meeting in Alaska on Friday, where US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met and were unable to achieve an agreement on concluding the war in Ukraine. Notably, the Swedish Prime Minister will not head to the US with Zelensky and other European leaders on Monday, according to the spokesperson of PM office.

As Washington gets ready to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, European leaders are scheduled to hold a meeting on the Ukraine war this afternoon. The virtual meeting is co-chaired by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with additional Ukraine allies also expected to join.  

As reported, the conference call will preview the upcoming meeting between President Trump and President Zelensky in Washington. The leaders will discuss steps towards ending the war in Ukraine, after Trump dropped his push for a ceasefire after his Alaska summit with Putin.

What is the purpose of the Coalition of the Willing?

The main purpose of the “Coalition of the Willing”, established in 2025 around the Russo-Ukrainian War, is to mainly support Ukraine’s sovereignty and security during and after the war against Russia. The coalition consists of more than 30 countries that have committed to bolstering military, economic, and diplomatic support to Ukraine.

When was the last Coalition of the Willing summit held?

The last high-level meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place on August 13, 2025. It was a virtual meeting that was co-chaired by UK Prime Minister of the UK Keir Starmer, President of France Emmanuel Macron, and Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, and attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The summit focused on a peaceful settlement of the Russo-Ukr
