Three out of the four reactors halted automatically late Sunday, followed by the shutdown of the fourth unit early Monday. The facility comprises six reactors, each generating 5.4 gigawatts of power. The other two units are currently undergoing maintenance.
EDF, France’s primary electricity generation and distribution company using nuclear, hydropower, renewables, and thermal power plants, stated that the incident does not pose any threat to the plant’s safety, its workers, or the environment.
The plant is cooled by water from a canal linked to the North Sea. The region’s beaches have experienced a rise in jellyfish sightings in recent years due to increasing sea temperatures, salinity changes, and overfishing, which decreases jellyfish predators.
