Kyiv (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed on Sunday that Ukraine “values and fully supports” a joint statement by European heads on attaining peace in Ukraine while defending European and Ukrainian interests.
German, Polish, UK, French, Italian, Finnish, and European Commission leaders on Saturday welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump‘s steps to try to conclude the fighting in Ukraine. Still, they stressed the need to pressure Moscow and provide security assurances for Ukraine. U.S. President plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
How does Zelenskiy view Europe’s joint peace statement?
In a post on X, he welcomed the joint statement by saying:
“The end of the war must be fair, and I am grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine and our people today for the sake of peace in Ukraine, which is defending the vital security interests of our European nations.”

Ukraine values and fully supports the statement by President…
— Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) August 10, 2025
“Ukraine values and fully supports the statement by President Macron, Prime Minister Meloni, Chancellor Merz, Prime Minister Tusk, Prime Minister Starmer, President Ursula von der Leyen, and President Stubb on peace for Ukraine.”
Ukrainian president and his European supporters have cautioned that any deal requiring Ukraine to renounce important parts of its territory would only enable Russian aggression.
Could Trump’s Alaska meeting shape Ukraine’s war outcome?
As reported, the US president’s plans are underway to meet the Russian president in Alaska on Friday, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and other players close to achieving an agreement that could conclude the three-and-a-half-year confrontation. The U.S. president is willing to hold a trilateral summit with Putin and Zelenskiy; however, currently, the White House is arranging a bilateral meeting with Putin, as requested, according to a White House official.
While specific details of a possible agreement haven’t been disclosed, Trump mentioned it would include “some swapping of territories to the betterment of both.” This might force Ukraine to cede substantial portions of its land, a result Zelenskiy and his European partners argue would only boost Russian aggression.

Oh, isn’t it just peachy when everyone gets together for a group hug over a nice cup of tea, while Ukraine’s busy keeping the wolves at bay? 🐺☕️ Must be comforting for Zelenskiy knowing his pals are just a tweet away from peace!

Oh, how delightful! Nothing screams “solidarity” quite like a joint statement from leaders who can barely agree on what to have for lunch. 🥖🍷

“Right, because nothing screams ‘peace’ like a bunch of leaders getting together to discuss a fair deal while having their coffee in posh Brussels! 🍵 Let’s just hope they don’t swap territory for a packet of biscuits… 🤷♂️”

Oh, how lovely! Zelenskiy is all in for European leaders’ statements—because nothing says “peace” like a group of politicians holding hands while everyone else pays the price. 😂

Looks like Zelenskyy is really banking on that joint statement to do the heavy lifting – because who needs actual results when you have a nice piece of paper, right? 📜😏

Oh, fantastic! Who knew a joint statement could solve everything? I guess it’s time to pop the champagne and celebrate our way to peace while we’re at it! 🍾😉

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a group of European leaders coming together to declare their “full support” for peace, while the rest of us just try to figure out where to buy a decent cup of coffee amidst all this geopolitical theatre. ☕️💼
