Pogačar withdraws from post-tour Roeselare race

Roeselare (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar will not ride in the post-Tour criterium in Roeselare, raising speculation about recovery and future race plans.

Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert will also not be present. The organizers would have liked to reveal these well-known names. However, the same 25,000 people as last year are still anticipated.

Every year, thousands of cycling enthusiasts flock to the heart of Roeselare, Belgium, to attend the Dovy Natourcriterium.

This year will be no exception. Tim Wellens, Kaden Groves, and Tim Merlier were among the Tour de France stage winners who the organizers were able to acquire once more.

“Our main goal was to bring Evenepoel and Pogačar here as well,”

says Baptiste Cobbe of Roeselare Koerst.

“But unfortunately, that didn’t work out. Remco was practically stuck, but unfortunately, he dropped out. The yellow jersey rider is opting for some rest and time with his wife after a tough Tour de France. Wout van Aert also wanted to take it easy for a few days.”

The organizers have also secured a few other Belgian stars, including Victor Campenaerts and Thibau Nys.

“And there are also some great names on the start list for the Gentlemen Classic,”

says Merlier.

“Etienne De Wilde, Johan Museeuw, and Maurizio Fondriest have all worn a world champion’s jersey. And former footballers Gert Verheyen and Geert De Vlieger want to show they can also hold their own in the peloton of stars.”

How might Van Aert and Evenepoel’s absence affect race dynamics?

Without major favorites like Van Aert and Evenepoel, the race becomes more open and unpredictable. Other riders or smaller teams may see an opportunity to attack earlier, with no single dominant rider or team to control the pace or shut down breakaways. This often leads to a more aggressive and animated race, as no one rider is clearly expected to dictate the action.

Van Aert’s absence, in particular, can create a “power vacuum,” where teams that might normally have ridden defensively change tactics and try to be more proactive.

Similarly, Evenepoel’s absence means rival classics specialists and sprinters may try to assert themselves without worrying about his engine or finishing speed influencing the finale.

Looks like Pogačar decided that a little R&R is more appealing than racing in Roeselare—who knew the Tour de France winner needed time to kick back and enjoy a nice Belgian waffle instead? 🤷‍♂️

Seems like the big names are off for a wee break while the rest of the lads try to figure out who’s actually racing—maybe they’ll find a few new stars among the usual suspects! 😏🚴‍♂️

  3. Seems like Roeselare will be the only place where cycling fans get a “star” show, but instead of Pogačar, they’ll have to settle for the “A-listers” of Belgian cycling—who knew that resting could be so glamorous? 😂

Seems like the Roeselare race just became the perfect occasion for our cycling stars to enjoy a cheeky pint instead of pedaling uphill. 🍻 Who needs the Tour winners when you’ve got a gaggle of Belgians ready to ride?

  5. Looks like the big guns are taking a breather while the lesser-knowns get their moment in the limelight. Who needs Pogačar when you’ve got a bunch of guys who can pedal really fast? 🚴‍♂️💨

Looks like the Roeselare race is turning into a bit of a cycling reunion for second-stringers—perfect for those who enjoy watching the “B-team” in action! 😂 Who needs the big names when you’ve got a few local legends ready to give it a go, right? 🥳

Typical! The big names decide to take a break while the rest of us peasants are left to enjoy a bicycle race with a bunch of unknowns. Guess it’s just another day in the life of a cycling fan—more drama than a soap opera! 😂🚴‍♂️

Pogačar skipping Roeselare? Oh, what a surprise! Clearly, after winning the Tour, he needs to spend more time with his wife than with fans—who knew cycling was just a fancy excuse for a romantic getaway? 😂

Pogačar skipping Roeselare? A real shocker—because who wouldn’t want to spend their post-Tour resting instead of racing in front of 25,000 fans? 🤷‍♂️ Classic move, mate!

Oh, how thrilling! A post-Tour race without the stars – what a treat for the cycling fans. Guess we’ll just have to watch the local lads pedal around while the big names enjoy their well-deserved “rest” in a comfy sofa! 😏🚴‍♂️

Typical! The big guns Pogačar, Evenepoel, and Van Aert all taking a spa day instead of gracing us with their presence. I suppose the cycling world will just have to enjoy some of those “lesser-known” stars instead. 🤷‍♂️🚴‍♂️

Seems like the big names are taking a little holiday instead of gracing us with their presence in Roeselare—maybe they heard the local coffee isn’t strong enough! ☕️😂 Guess the crowd will have to settle for the “B-team” this year.

Looks like Pogačar’s decided that a cozy couch and a cuppa with his missus are far more appealing than racing in Roeselare. Can’t blame the lad—who wouldn’t want to trade a post-tour race for a bit of R&R, eh? 😂

Typical, innit? Just when you thought you’d get a chance to see the big guns like Pogačar and Evenepoel, they decide a bit of R&R is more appealing than a race – who knew cycling was as much about lounging as it is about pedalling? 😂

Pogačar skipping Roeselare, eh? Just what the cycling world needed—more room for the rest of us to stretch our legs! 🚴‍♂️💨 Who knew recovery was so fashionable these days? 😂

Ah, the Roeselare race just became a bit more… exclusive. Who needs Pogačar and Evenepoel when you can watch a bunch of blokes who *almost* made it? 😂🚴‍♂️

Looks like Pogačar’s taking a little holiday from the bike; can’t blame him for choosing rest over the chaos of Roeselare. 🤷‍♂️ Who needs a yellow jersey when you can lounge in your pants instead? 🍻

Looks like Pogačar decided a cozy couch and some Belgian chocolates are more appealing than racing in Roeselare—who can blame him? 😂 I mean, with Remco and Wout skipping out too, it’s practically a merry picnic instead of a race! 🍫🚴‍♂️

Pogačar pulling out? Just what we needed – another chance for the “rested” riders to show us their cycling skills, or lack thereof. 😂 It’s like going to a Michelin-starred restaurant and finding out the chef’s on holiday!

Looks like Roeselare will be an exclusive club this year, with the biggest stars opting for a “rest day” instead of entertaining the masses. Maybe they heard about the Belgian beers and thought, why not have a little drinky-poo instead? 🍻
