A study released on Monday indicates a growing European disillusionment with democracy. Only 36% of those surveyed consistently support democracy, appreciating voting rights and the importance of checks and balances, as per the survey by the European Movement, which advocates for closer integration and stronger institutions within the bloc. The other 64% of respondents, from over 3,500 polled in seven major EU nations, express inconsistent support for democracy and show increased preference for a strong leader compared to past years. Democratic values are most robust in Sweden, where 52% value democracy. In other countries, fewer than half the population consistently support democracy, dropping to 30% in France and Romania; in Spain, only one in four consistently support democracy. “The low percentage of consistent support for democracy is truly worrying,” said Petros Fassoulas, secretary-general of the European Movement, to POLITICO’s Brussels Playbook.

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—Europeans deciding that democracy is so last season. Who needs checks and balances when you can just have a strong leader telling you what to do? 😂

Guess democracy’s just not as tasty as a good ol’ croissant, eh? 🍞😂 Who needs checks and balances when you can have a charismatic chap at the helm?

Looks like the EU’s latest trend is swapping democracy for a ‘strong leader’ – who needs checks and balances when you can have a charismatic dictator, right? 😂 Cheers to the good ol’ days of voting, or should I say, the days of “just trust me, mate!” 🥂

Seems like democracy is the new artisanal cheese—everyone talks about it, but no one really wants to buy it anymore. 🤷♂️ Maybe we should just appoint a strong leader and call it a day, eh? 🧀🇪🇺

Funny how the cradle of democracy is now looking for a strongman to fix things, innit? 🤔 Guess the voting booths are just too much effort when you can have a ‘leader’ who decides everything for you! Classic! 😂
-
So, let’s just ditch the voting booths and crown a king, eh? I mean, who needs democracy when you can have a strong leader dictating all the fun? 😂🇪🇺

Looks like the democratic spirit in Europe is on a mini-break, eh? Maybe a strong leader can finally make decisions without all that pesky voting nonsense. 😂
-
Honestly, who needs democracy when you can just pick a strong leader and hope for the best? Sounds like a solid strategy—1 part chaos, 2 parts “what could possibly go wrong?” 😂

Seems like everyone’s too busy enjoying their croissants and siestas to bother with the whole voting malarkey. Guess a strong leader sounds a lot more appealing than a bunch of politicians arguing like it’s a pub brawl over who gets the last pint! 🍻

Seems like democracy’s a bit like a fine wine in Europe – some prefer the vintage, while others just want the whole bottle without the fuss. 🍷 Cheers to strong leaders, eh? 😂

Seems like the European love affair with democracy is about as strong as a cup of lukewarm tea. Who needs checks and balances when you can have a strong leader to make all the decisions, right? 😂

Looks like democracy’s about as popular as a soggy croissant these days, eh? 🤷♂️ Maybe we should just put a bouncer at the ballot box and call it a day!

Turns out, the European dream of democracy is as popular as a cold espresso in a Parisian bistro. 🤷♂️ With only 36% showing any real love for voting, it looks like we’re all just a hair away from handing the keys to the next “strong leader” who promises us a nice ride. 🚗💨
