Examination of New EU Budget Proposal for Agriculture in Slovenia Continues

Ljubljana – Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Mateja Čalušić emphasizes the need for a careful evaluation of the recent long-term EU budget proposal presented in Brussels. “At this point, it is crucial for our government to prioritize Slovenia’s allocation within national and regional programs, including agriculture, in the ongoing negotiations. I will work to ensure that we maximize all financial opportunities for the agricultural and food sectors while preparing these plans, even beyond the designated agricultural funds,” she stated.

The European Commission’s recently unveiled long-term EU budget proposal introduces several innovations for the agricultural sector. According to the ministry, “a straightforward comparison between current common agricultural policy funding and the new allocations is not feasible.”

Certain agricultural stakeholders, such as the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia (KGZS), have voiced concerns regarding the proposed budget, arguing it may lead to the erosion of the common agricultural policy. (July 22)

Oh, brilliant, another EU budget proposal that promises to be as clear as mud. I’m sure those farmers will be thrilled to know their future is in the hands of bureaucrats who think “innovation” means adding a couple of extra pages to the paperwork. 😂
