Diepenbeek: 21 Flats by Dethier to Replace Old Post Office

Diepenbeek (Eurotoday) – The old post office on Kerkstraat in Diepenbeek will be replaced by a green housing project with 21 apartments. Dethier plans 2 L-shaped buildings and a private garden.

As VRT News reported, the old post office on Kerkstraat in Diepenbeek, a municipality in the province of Limburg, Belgium, is being demolished. A new housing project will be built there. Officials mentioned that people in Diepenbeek do not need to worry about postal services. The post office is still open, but in another building.

That building must be empty by the end of December 2026. The owner has asked Bpost to leave by then. Bpost says this is not a problem. Every town in Belgium must have a post office. bpost will stay in Diepenbeek. They are now looking for a new place.

They want a clean, modern building that is easy for people to reach. They are also talking with the town council about it. Officials mentioned that bpost has enough time to move. They will make sure that people in Diepenbeek still get all their postal services.

What will replace Diepenbeek’s old post office site?

A new housing project will have 21 apartments in 2 separate buildings. The 2 buildings will form an L-shape. Many towns in Flanders are doing the same. Old buildings that are not used anymore are being replaced with new homes. Officials mentioned that these homes are better for the environment and more useful for people.

“This will create space for greenery, and each resident will have sunshine and privacy.”

Explains Philip Carens, project development manager at Dethier.

“The location, close to the town centre, has a lot of potential.”

Project developer Dethier wants to turn the old post office site in Diepenbeek into a green and modern place to live. They mentioned that the first thing they will do is take away all the pavement on the site. The area is fully paved, with a big parking lot and several garages.

Carens, who speaks for the project, says they want to make the area look much greener. They plan to build a large private garden with 2 apartment buildings inside it. Under the garden, there will be an underground parking garage.

Officials mentioned that to keep the place quiet, the garden will not be open to the public. Only the people who live there can use it. If all goes well and the plans are approved, building will start in January 2027. The apartments will go on sale in 2026.

The new buildings will be placed between Kerkstraat and the parking area that is next to the cemetery, youth centres, and a school. The developer wants the buildings to fit in well with what is already there.

Replacing the post office with 21 flats, eh? Now, that’s what I call a bold strategy—who needs mail when you can have a shiny new view of the cemetery? 🏙️💼

Replacing a post office with 21 flats? Now that’s what I call a “postal upgrade” – who needs letters when you’ve got a garden? 🌿📬

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “progress” like replacing a nostalgic post office with a collection of L-shaped flats. Just what Diepenbeek needed – more apartments and less history! 🏙️

Replacing the old post office with 21 flats? Brilliant move, because nothing says “European charm” like L-shaped buildings and a private garden nobody else can enjoy! 😏🏢

Replacing the old post office with 21 flats? Brilliant! Because nothing says “progress” like turning a piece of history into more boxes for folks to rent. 🏢💁‍♂️

Just what Diepenbeek needs, more flats to keep the locals cozy while they wait for the post! 🌳😏 Can’t wait for the “green” garden to sprout right next to a garage – truly living the dream!
