Bratislava – The European Commission, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) have been informed of 330 potential abuses of EU funds in Slovakia. Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský announced this on social media on Thursday following his recent oversight mission with the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control in Slovakia, according to TASR.
Zdechovský noted that the oversight mission identified no irregularities in the use of EU funds in just three of Slovakia’s districts.
“The findings are shocking. We discovered suspicions in 76 out of 79 Slovak districts,” Zdechovský remarked. While members of the European Parliament had access to over 2000 reports, the MEP indicated that only 330 cases were substantiated with evidence.
The highest concentration of irregularities was reported in western Slovakia, as well as near the cities of Žilina, Prešov, and Košice.
“We will pursue further cases,” Zdechovský stated. (June 26)
