Why Did a 62-Year-Old Attack a Man in a Turnhout Supermarket?
According to the owner of the Cyprus supermarket, the attack was unrelated to his business. He expressed frustration over negative online comments targeting his store due to its foreign ownership. He emphasized that his supermarket has been in operation for 25 years without any prior incidents of this nature.
The owner urged the public to understand that the attack was not linked to his store and could have occurred anywhere. He described it as an unfortunate event and hoped it would not tarnish the store’s reputation.
On Friday, March 21, 2025, the supermarket owner and his brother heard a commotion and rushed to the scene, where they witnessed the attacker assaulting the victim. They intervened, disarming the assailant by kicking the knife away. Police arrived shortly afterward and took the attacker into custody. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The supermarket owner, who played a key role in stopping the attack, sustained an injury himself. He was stabbed in the arm during the struggle but only realized he was wounded after the situation was under control. He required stitches for his injury but stated that he had no regrets about intervening, as he felt it was necessary to prevent further harm.
