“Satan Has Many Faces”: De Wever Sounds Off on Debt, European Politics, and Brexit

“Satan has many faces. If you dance with him, he never changes; only you do. Those are biblical truths.”

Yes, he’s still talking about debt.

Meloni Holds Significant Influence in Europe

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has become a key figure in the European Council, according to Belgian politician Bart De Wever. He described her as a “very pleasant woman” with strong political instincts. “If you look around the room and consider whose voice carries weight, Meloni is clearly one of Europe’s most influential leaders right now,” he said.

Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party and De Wever’s New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) are both part of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group.

Cameron and Johnson’s Brexit Gamble

De Wever revealed that his party joined the right-wing ECR group in the European Parliament at the urging of then-UK Conservative leader David Cameron. Cameron had promised him a lasting political alliance—only for Brexit to later strip his party and country from EU affairs.

Cameron was confident he would win the 2016 referendum, while leading Brexiteer Boris Johnson assured De Wever that even if Leave won, he’d get credit for swaying voters. Reflecting on the situation, De Wever mused: “The man without a plan for losing could still lose, while the man with no plan for winning might actually end up victorious.”

Negotiation vs. Mere Talk

De Wever emphasized the distinction between conversation and serious negotiation. Referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he noted that genuine diplomatic efforts require clear objectives and compromise. He dismissed Russian demands, which would amount to Ukraine’s “true capitulation,” as going beyond reasonable negotiation.

“As a Belgian politician,” he concluded, “I know the difference between talking and real negotiating.”

  1. Oh, great, another insightful chat about debt and Brexit from the sage of Belgium! Just what we needed to spice up our afternoon coffee break—who knew politics could be this riveting? 😂

  2. Oh, splendid! Who knew that political discourse could be as entertaining as a clown convention at a Brussels café? 🍻 If only we could convince Meloni to juggle some debts while we’re at it, we’d have a real showstopper!

  3. Isn’t it charming how politicians can turn a biblical metaphor into a masterclass on debt management? 🎩 Just what we needed, a theological twist on our financial woes—next up, a sermon on inflation! 🙄

Oh joy, another politician comparing debt to dancing with Satan—how utterly original. 😂 But of course, it’s always the same waltz: one step forward, three steps into the abyss! 🎭

  5. Oh great, another political heavyweight throwing around biblical metaphors—just what we need in the EU. 😂 If only negotiating was as simple as quoting scripture, we’d all be sipping espresso in peace instead of dodging debt like it’s a bad date! 🍷
