Westouter (Eurotoday) – The Kosmos on Rodeberg in Westouter, Heuvelland, Belgium, is undergoing renovations to become a modern attraction. Despite fences, alarms, and warnings from Nathalie Lermytte, people, including families, continue to trespass, creating dangerous situations. Authorities urge patience.
The Kosmos, a former holiday destination on the Rodeberg in Westouter, municipality of Heuvelland, province of West Flanders, Belgium, is being transformed into a contemporary site featuring a rooftop bar, wellness facilities, and exhibition spaces.
Authorities report that despite clear warning signs and fencing, people are still entering the Kosmos site, disregarding the dangers posed by ongoing construction. Officials stress that the site is unsafe, with various hazards present.
According to Nathalie Lermytte, visitors have been climbing fences and venturing onto the site. She emphasizes the importance of staying away until the renovation is complete. While excitement about the renewed Kosmos is understandable, safety must come first.
That is why I would like to appeal: please stay away from the site and the building. It is very dangerous there, especially now.
Nathalie Lermytte stated.
Is the Kosmos renovation in Westouter facing safety issues?
The Kosmos site is struggling with unauthorized entries, despite the installation of cameras and alarms. These measures have not been entirely effective, as people continue to access the site—especially on weekends and sunny days.
Nathalie Lermytte noted that images have surfaced of individuals inside the site, including families with children. By the time authorities arrive, trespassers have often left, making enforcement difficult.
The Kosmos site owners express concern over the ongoing trespassing, equating it to theft since the building is not yet complete. More importantly, they highlight safety risks, as the structure remains unstable during renovations.
Efforts are underway to ensure security, but the site is not yet safe. Nathalie Lermytte assures the public that an open day will be organized once renovations are complete, allowing visitors to explore the new Kosmos safely. Until then, she urges patience and adherence to safety guidelines.
Kosmos was once a popular holiday destination for young people, known for its outdoor pool and scenic location. However, after years of abandonment, the building fell into disrepair. Now, anticipation for its redevelopment is growing. Officials confirm that the blank”>renovation is progressing rapidly, but the site remains an active construction zone, with workers focused on restoring and modernizing the structure.

Isn’t it just delightful that in Belgium, a “danger zone” is now an exciting weekend destination? Who needs amusement parks when you have a treacherous construction site to liven up your family outings? 😏🦺
