Keerbergen Welcomes Its First Butcher Shop in Two Years – By Alwin Van Geel

Keerbergen (Eurotoday) – Butcher Alwin Van Geel and his partner Jessica are set to open a new shop on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Keerbergen, marking the first independent butcher shop in the town in two years. They are committed to offering high-quality meat and are celebrating with a unique chipolata giveaway.

Alwin Van Geel is launching his butcher shop in Keerbergen, located in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, this Friday, March 21, 2025. Keerbergen has been without an independent butcher for over two years. Alwin understands the dedication required to run such a business, given that his day starts at 3 a.m., and he works approximately 85 hours a week between his shop and the market.

Alwin is dedicated to providing high-quality meat to his customers. While he focuses on sourcing and preparing the meat, Jessica will manage the shop and assist customers. They emphasize that their products will always be fresh, with the potential addition of homemade food items in the future.

If you sleep with the dog, you get lice,

Jessica jokes.

My great-grandparents were also butchers, so I’m picking up where they left off and going for it.

What Can Customers Expect from Keerbergen’s New Butcher Shop?

Alwin Van Geel and Jessica are eager to make their butcher shop a success. To celebrate their grand opening, they are hosting a special event to attract customers. Every visitor will receive a chipolata sausage matching their height.

Alwin explained,

If you are 1 meter 78 centimetres tall, you will get a sausage of the same length. This is sure to draw attention.

Looking to the future, Alwin has big aspirations. Beyond running a butcher shop, he dreams of expanding his culinary ventures.

Alwin shared,

Maybe I’ll open a steak restaurant someday.

Alwin and Jessica waited to open their shop until the town centre’s construction was completed, ensuring they could launch in a fresh and improved environment. Alwin’s passion for cooking began early—he started at just blank”>12 years old.

Initially aspiring to be a chef, Alwin was advised by his father to pursue butchery instead, as the profession offered stability and good income due to a shortage of butchers. Taking his father’s advice, he honed his craft, working at market stalls and specializing in high-quality meat.

Finally, after two whole years of meat deprivation, Keerbergen is getting its first butcher shop! One can only hope the chipolatas are as tall as the townsfolk—could save a fortune on meat measuring tapes! 😏🥩

Finally, a butcher shop in Keerbergen! I mean, who needs artisanal charcuterie when you can have a chipolata sausage that measures your height? 🎉 If they stay open longer than two years, I might just start believing in miracles! 🥖

Finally, Keerbergen has a butcher shop! 🎉 Because nothing says “progress” like waiting two years for someone to chop up a few sausages. I can already hear the excited chatter: “Oh, look at that, a chipolata as tall as me! What a time to be alive!” 😏

Finally, a butcher shop in Keerbergen! I was starting to think the only thing getting sliced around here was the suspense in the town. 🥩😏 Let’s just hope the sausages are taller than the village’s hopes for a decent cuppa!
