British Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq Resigns Amid Ethics Probe Concerns
LONDON — Tulip Siddiq, a British Treasury minister tasked with anti-corruption oversight, announced her resignation from the government Tuesday night, citing fears that an ongoing ethics investigation could serve as a “distraction.”
Siddiq, who holds the City of London portfolio, had come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks over her connections to Sheikh Hasina, the ousted leader of Bangladesh and Siddiq’s aunt.
The minister is currently under investigation by Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission and has referred herself to the U.K.’s ethics watchdog following reports implicating her in controversies surrounding properties linked to Hasina and her close associates.
This remains a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
