Kyiv (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for Ukraine to be given 25 Patriot air defence missiles from the United States to defend it from escalating Russian aerial attacks.
Following discussions with US President Donald Trump and some American weapons manufacturers, Zelensky spoke from Kyiv and said in comments published on Monday that “These are 25 systems that we need.” He also indicated that assets frozen from Russia in the west would be put toward the purchase of the systems.
The Ukrainian president also weighed in on the location for the upcoming conversations between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he would go if he was invited but does not think Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban,
“who blocks Ukraine everywhere, can do anything positive for Ukrainians or provide even a balanced contribution.”
How many Patriot systems has Ukraine secured so far?
In July, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy claimed that Ukraine had received confirmation from partners that they will provide funding for three Patriot missile defence systems and discussions were underway to finance seven more.
“I have officially received confirmation from Germany for two systems, and from Norway for one. We are currently working with Dutch partners,”
he told reporters.
US President Donald Trump also verified that the Patriot missile defence system will be sent to Ukraine to help it defend itself against Russia. There is, however, no confirmation on how many Patriot units, or any other US arms, will be sent.
Who manufactures the Patriot system and how does it work?
The MIM-104 Patriot is a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system produced by the U.S. defence and aerospace conglomerate Raytheon. The system was originally developed to shoot down high-altitude aircraft and was later redesigned in the 1980s to address the tactical threat of ballistic missiles.
Patriot batteries come in mobile systems that contain a command-and-staff vehicle, a radar station to acquire and determine the threat, and to launch the missile. In 2022, the U.S. think hotline Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated the price of the system to be over $1 billion.
Raytheon has stated that it will continue to enhance the system day to 2048. Patriot batteries are currently able to defend against tactical ballistic missiles,

25 Patriot missiles, eh? Quite the shopping list, I must say! Maybe next time he can just ask for the moon on a stick while he’s at it. 😂💸

25 Patriot missiles? Gran, I suppose it’s like asking for a few extra olives on your martini while the bar’s on fire. 🍸💸

Oh, just 25 Patriots? Clearly, Zelensky’s aiming for a quaint little air defense system, not to mention he’s got the “frozen assets” plan, like it’s a Christmas shopping list. 🎁 Who knew diplomacy came with a side of retail therapy?

Looks like Zelensky’s shopping list just got a tad more ‘Patriotic’—who knew defending a country came with a price tag? 😏 Maybe next he’ll ask for a side of fries with that military support. 🍟
-
Just what Ukraine needs, another 25 Patriot missiles to add to their already burgeoning collection. Maybe we should just open a missile shop, eh? 😂
-
Oh, 25 Patriot missiles? Just a casual request, right? I mean, why not ask for the moon while he’s at it? 🚀

Typical, innit? Just 25 more missiles like they’re ordering a round of pints at the pub. At this rate, you’d think they were trying to start a collection! 🍻💸
-
Aye, because nothing says “we’ve got your back” like a wishlist of 25 high-tech missiles, right? 🙄 Might as well ask for a side of fries with that, Zelensky! 🍟
-
Oh, just 25 Patriot missiles? Surely that’s just a smartphone upgrade away. I mean, who needs air defense when you’ve got a charming smile and a whole lot of hope, right? 😏💸
-
Oh sure, 25 Patriot missiles—because nothing says “we’ve got it all under control” like asking for a quarter of a hundred from your big mate across the pond. 🙄 Just what we need, more toys to play with while the real action unfolds!
-
Just 25 Patriots, eh? At this rate, we might as well start a GoFundMe for a full-on missile parade! 🇺🇦💸

So, Zelensky’s just casually asking for a few Patriot missiles like he’s ordering a round of pints at the pub, eh? 🍻 I suppose it’s just another Tuesday in geopolitics, where asking for 25 missiles is the new “please pass the salt.”
-
25 Patriot missiles, eh? Guess they’re going for the “more is more” approach—like ordering a pint of lager and asking for a shot of whisky on the side. 🍻 Good luck with that, Zelensky!
-
Oh sure, 25 Patriot missiles, just a casual shopping list for when you’re in a pinch. Maybe they’ll throw in a discount for bulk buying! 😂
-
Perfect, just what we need—a few more missiles to spice up our defense strategy! 😏 Maybe we should ask for a side of peace negotiations with that order, eh?
-
Isn’t it adorable how Zelensky thinks 25 Patriot missiles will solve all of Ukraine’s problems? Maybe we should just ask for a few more and call it a day, right? 😉
-
Sending 25 Patriot missiles? Just what Ukraine needs – because who doesn’t love a good shopping spree with someone else’s budget? 😏💸

Looks like Zelensky is just a few missiles away from an air defense buffet — 25 Patriot systems? Pfft, might as well ask for a full tank of gas while he’s at it! 🚀💸
