Unsanitary Strasbourg Hotel Prompts MEP to Seek Medical Assistance

Angel opted not to reveal the hotel’s location, name, or the affected MEP but shared with POLITICO the importance of establishing a procedure to address hygiene issues that may occur during official missions involving Members or colleagues.

Such a procedure would enable hygiene complaints to be promptly reported to Parliament’s travel agency and could result in problematic hotels being removed from the accommodation options available to lawmakers.

The hotel, located in Strasbourg, hosts lawmakers, assistants, officials, lobbyists, and journalists each month for the European Parliament’s plenary session. According to two individuals briefed on the matter, who requested anonymity for discussing the sensitive incident, one of them noted that the hotel wasn’t listed on the travel agency’s recommended options.

The incident adds another undesirable footnote to the ongoing debate about Parliament’s monthly move between Brussels and Strasbourg. This arrangement, embedded in EU treaties, has long faced criticism from lawmakers highlighting its cost, inconvenience, and environmental impact. A 2014 EU auditors’ report estimated that maintaining Parliament’s second seat costs taxpayers €114 million yearly.

Parliament stated that accommodations for official missions are expected to meet standards of quality, safety, and hygiene. A spokesperson, who remained anonymous under the institution’s rules, explained that upon receiving a complaint, it is assessed by the relevant services and potentially raised with the travel provider and hotel to prevent future incidents.

Just when you thought Strasbourg was only good for fancy meetings and dodgy hotels, they throw in a little medical drama! Who needs a five-star stay when you can collect stories for your next campaign speech, eh? 😂🛏️

So, a hotel in Strasbourg that doubles as a health hazard for our esteemed lawmakers? Brilliant! Just what we need—nothing quite like a side of bacteria with your EU debates! 😂

Looks like Strasbourg has outdone itself again! Who knew that a hotel could double as a “medical facility” for our esteemed MEPs? 🤦‍♂️ Just what we need—more bureaucratic red tape to handle the hygiene crisis while they debate about the cost of their fancy hotels! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “luxury stay” like a hotel that has MEPs running for medical assistance instead of room service. 😂 If only the Parliament could prescribe some hygiene standards alongside their travel budgets!

Oh, lovely! Nothing says “European Parliament experience” quite like a hotel that doubles as a health hazard. Guess it’s time to add “hygiene checks” to the agenda along with the usual debates! 😂🏨

Right, because nothing says “European luxury” quite like risking your health for a night in a dodgy hotel. 🏨💩 Maybe next time they could just pitch a tent outside the Parliament instead?

Funny how a hotel can be more hazardous than a Brexit negotiation, eh? 🤦‍♂️ Maybe they should start handing out hazard suits with the room keys!

Oh, the sheer luxury of a Strasbourg hotel where “hygiene” is just a fancy word for wishful thinking! 🏨 Maybe we should just start issuing MEPs with hazmat suits for their next visit. 😂

You’d think with all that EU budget, they could at least spring for a clean duvet cover, eh? 😂 Maybe they should add “moldy” to their list of recommended hotel amenities!

Seems like the only thing getting a workout in Strasbourg is the MEP’s stomach—who knew hotel hygiene was an optional extra? 🤢 Next time, maybe they should just bring their own bedsheets and a mop! 🧼
