UN Calls for Increased Support and Aid for Palestinians on International Day of Solidarity

Annalena Baerbock, president of the UN General Assembly, stated on Tuesday at an event for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, “At least 67 children have been killed since the ceasefire.”

Courtenay Rattray, Chef de Cabinet, speaking on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, highlighted, “The people in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, also endured unspeakable hardship amidst Israeli military operations, settler violence, settlement expansion, evictions, and demolition.”

The International Day is observed annually on 29 November – the day in 1947 that the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on partitioning Palestine into two independent States, one Arab and one Jewish.

Mr. Rattray emphasized that the UN stands by a simple truth: the Palestinian people have the right to dignity, justice, and self-determination.

Lifesaving humanitarian aid still needed

The UN agency assisting Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, “remains a lifeline” for millions of Palestinians, he said.

He added that the international community must continue to support it, as the UN strives to reach the $4 billion target set by the Flash Appeal for the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The International Court of Justice and the UN General Assembly have both affirmed that the long-standing occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal.

Gaza lies in ruins, with civilians — including children and women — among the dead and injured. Humanitarian workers and journalists have also been affected. Meanwhile, attacks are increasingly targeting Palestinian farmers in the West Bank as they attempt to harvest their olive crops.

Mr. Rattray stated, “Hope can become a reality. Hope that two people — bound by history, geography, and humanity — will live side by side in peace.”

“On this International Day of Solidarity, let us turn that hope into action, and help the olive tree grow once more.”

  1. Can’t wait for the UN to solve this one—I’m sure a few more speeches will really do the trick. 🍷🕊️

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a UN resolution to really get the ol’ humanitarian aid flowing. Maybe next they’ll hold a bake sale for all those “lifelines” they keep talking about. 🍪😏

Oh joy, another day of “solidarity” while the world watches like it’s the latest reality show. Maybe if we throw in a few more heartfelt quotes, the situation will magically fix itself, eh? 🙄

  4. Right, because throwing money at a situation has always worked wonders, hasn’t it? 🌍💸 Let’s just hope the olive trees have a better chance than the kids caught in the crossfire, eh? 🍈

Such a touching call for solidarity on a day when reality seems to have taken a holiday, eh? 🍷 Might as well plant a few more olive trees while we’re at it—who needs peace when you can have a nice garden? 🌳

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “we care” quite like a day dedicated to solidarity, while we all sit back and watch things crumble like stale baguettes. 🥖💔

Oh great, another UN pep talk about solidarity – because nothing says “we care” like a well-timed statement while children are being counted as casualties. 🙄 Just what the world needs, more meetings and less action, right? 🍷

Looks like the UN’s really got their work cut out for them, eh? Just what we needed—another day of solidarity to remind us that hope grows faster than actual change. 🍃

Oh sure, because a bit of solidarity and a heartfelt speech is definitely the magic wand we need for a situation as complex as this. 🍃 Let’s just sprinkle some fairy dust and watch the olive trees sprout, shall we? 🧙‍♂️

Oh, nothing like a UN call for “solidarity” to really get the ball rolling, right? It’s almost as if we could solve decades of conflict with a heartfelt message and a few olive branches! 🍃😂

Oh, fantastic, another UN call for aid—because clearly, throwing money at a problem has worked wonders in the past. 🤑 At this rate, I might just open a charity to fund my next holiday, sounds just as effective, right? 🍷

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—another UN call for support while the situation goes from bad to worse. 🍷 Maybe next they’ll ask for a round of applause instead of aid, eh? 😏

Oh, brilliant idea, let’s sprinkle a bit of charity on a festering wound and call it a day, shall we? 🌍💸 As if throwing cash at a problem has ever solved anything—classic UN move!

Oh, fantastic, another call for support from the UN—because throwing money at a problem has always worked wonders, right? 🙄 Just what we needed, a global reminder that “hope” is a great substitute for action.

Looks like the UN is really pulling out all the stops this time—maybe if we throw enough money at it, the problems will just magically disappear, right? 🍷

  17. Isn’t it charming how the UN calls for aid while the olive trees are getting a real workout from the ‘harvesting’ season? 🌳💼 I guess solidarity comes with a side of irony these days.
