The SBU reports that Magamedrasulov assisted his father, a Russian citizen, in the illicit trade of industrial hemp with Russia. They are also investigating Magamedrasulov’s potential interactions with Russian spies and whether he provided them with confidential information on upcoming corruption probes.
The SBU alleged that Magamedrasulov had close ties with Fedir Khrystenko, a pro-Russian lawmaker on the run, who is suspected of being a Russian spy in Ukraine. Khrystenko purportedly holds “significant influence” over Ukraine’s anti-corruption agency, as per the SBU’s statement on Monday.
NABU, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, reported that the searches involved at least 15 staff members and were conducted without a court warrant. “Often, the investigative actions are based on the alleged engagement of certain individuals in traffic incidents. Nonetheless, some personnel are accused of potential links to the aggressor state. These issues are unrelated,” NABU stated on Monday.
“The risk of influence agents from the aggressor state is plausible for any governmental body. However, this should not disrupt the functioning of the entire institution,” added NABU.
