Child, 7, in Critical Condition After Fall in Borgerhout

Borgerhout (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 7-year-old child is in critical condition after falling from a window in Borgerhout. Authorities have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.

He fell from a house’s window. Police said the incident probably happened while the player was playing.

A house on Alfred Oststraat was the scene of the disaster on Monday afternoon in Belgium. The toddler landed in the driveway after falling through the window. Although he received treatment on the spot, his condition was life-threatening when he was brought to the hospital.

Initial police findings indicate that the toddler slipped through the fly screen while playing, causing an accident.

What safety measures can prevent children from falling through windows during play?

Supervise young children closely, especially when they are near windows, as active supervision is the first and most effective defense against falls.

Keep windows closed and locked whenever possible, or limit how far they open to no more than four inches (about 10 cm), preventing children from fitting through.

Install window guards or window stops on windows above ground level. Guards act as barriers while allowing ventilation, and stops prevent windows from opening too wide. Importantly, these devices should include an emergency release mechanism for adults in case of fire.

Open windows from the top down rather than the bottom up, which reduces the chance that children can access the opening. Move furniture, cribs, beds, or other climbable objects away from windows to prevent children from climbing up and reaching an open window.

Seems like the local safety measures are as strong as a wet napkin, eh? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next time they should just install a trampoline instead of a fly screen! 🥴

Just what we needed, another reminder that windows are not child-proof. 🙄 Maybe next time they’ll consider installing some proper safety precautions instead of leaving it to chance, eh? 🤦‍♂️

Seems like playing near windows is the new extreme sport for kids in Borgerhout. 🤦‍♂️ Maybe next time, we can put a “no fun allowed” sign on the glass, yeah?

Blimey, a game of peekaboo gone wrong, eh? Next time, maybe just stick to Monopoly instead of playing at window diving! 🤷‍♂️🪟

Right, so a kid falls out a window while playing—classic Borgerhout entertainment, isn’t it? 🤦‍♂️ Maybe next time, we could invest in some actual safety measures instead of just watching the spectacle unfold.

A seven-year-old in critical condition after a window dive? Just another day in the “safety-conscious” suburbs of Borgerhout, eh? Must’ve thought he was training for the Olympics. 😬🏅

Nothing like a little game of “Window Roulette” to spice up a Tuesday afternoon in Borgerhout, eh? 🚪🤷‍♂️ Seems they forgot the basics of child-proofing—who needs safety when you’ve got a fly screen for a bouncer, right?
