The SBU has released new video footage showing Ukrainian drones striking various components of Russian strategic and reconnaissance aircraft, including engines, antennas, and wings, at four military airfields deep inside Russia. These airfields are often used by Russia to launch ballistic and cruise missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. The SBU stated that the targeted aircraft included ‘A-50,’ ‘Tu-95,’ ‘Tu-22,’ ‘Tu-160,’ ‘An-12,’ and ‘Il-78,’ estimating the financial damage to Russia to exceed $7 billion. Open source intelligence experts and journalists have confirmed the destruction of at least 11 strategic bombers using newly available satellite images. The bold “Spider Web” drone operation drew global attention, with some praising Ukraine for potentially changing the rules of modern warfare, while others, such as U.S. Special Envoy on Ukraine Keith Kellogg, voiced concerns over the heightened risks associated with these tactics. Kellogg mentioned the potential for increased risk levels when targeting an opponent’s national survival systems, such as their nuclear triad, and emphasized the importance of avoiding such escalations.
