Bratislava – The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic (MV SR) is closely monitoring the situation in Syria and has implemented immediate measures to enhance background checks for individuals from the region. The ministry will determine further actions in response to ongoing developments, in collaboration with the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) and other EU member states.
On Tuesday, MV SR spokesperson Matej Neumann communicated this information to the TASR Agency, emphasizing that Slovakia stands ready to respond as necessary.
“Currently, there are 460 Syrian nationals residing in Slovakia: 218 have temporary residence permits, 237 hold permanent residence status, and 5 have tolerated residence. In 2023, four Syrian nationals applied for international protection, while in 2024, seven have made applications. At this time, we do not have any ongoing cases involving Syrian citizens in asylum proceedings,” Neumann stated. (10 December)
