Talks on Ukraine Progressing ‘Constructively’ in Miami, Says Russian Envoy

The White House has suggested a peace initiative to conclude the conflict in Ukraine, with Trump stating last week that a deal was “closer than ever.” However, U.S. State Secretary Marco Rubio mentioned on Friday that there was still “a ways to go” ahead of this weekend’s talks in Florida.

On Sunday, the Kremlin denied that trilateral discussions involving Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. were planned for the Miami meetings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned on Saturday that Washington had suggested the possibility of a three-way discussion this weekend, but he expressed uncertainty about the outcomes of such a meeting in Florida.

“Currently, no one has seriously discussed this initiative, and it is not in preparation, as far as I know,” stated Putin’s top foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov to reporters, according to Agence France Presse, quoting Russian news agencies.

European leaders agreed late last week to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan through joint EU borrowing, after plans to utilize Russian frozen assets to finance Kyiv’s war efforts were thwarted by Belgium.
