SpaceX Allegedly Assumes Control of Lerma Parador

Rumors of a 140-person eclipse group draw interest as Burgos accommodation fills up, though crucial details are not yet verified

SpaceX is said to have reserved the entire Parador de Lerma in northern Spain for a group of 140 experts convening to view Wednesday’s total solar eclipse. This booking highlights the significant scientific and commercial interest in the event, yet neither SpaceX nor Paradores had confirmed the company’s involvement at the time of reporting.

The supposed group reportedly includes engineers, researchers, and other technical staff affiliated with Elon Musk’s aerospace firm. As per the circulating claim in Spain, SpaceX secured exclusive access to the historic hotel 18 months prior to the eclipse.

The European Times has not independently verified these claims. Prior local reports from Burgos noted that an unnamed American group had reserved the Parador’s rooms as early as 2022. This account corroborates a major international booking but offers a different timeline and did not name SpaceX.

A palace on the eclipse path

The Parador de Lerma is housed in the town’s grand 17th-century ducal palace, overlooking the Plaza Mayor. Situated in Burgos province, it is near the eclipse’s central path across northern Spain.

Totality in the Burgos region is expected shortly after 20:29 CEST, lasting about one minute and 44 seconds. The Sun will be low over the western horizon, requiring open sightlines and precise positioning for observers and scientific apparatus.

For technical teams, the eclipse offers more than a striking display. Totality provides opportunities for observing the solar corona, monitoring changes in light and temperature, studying atmospheric reactions, and testing imaging and communications equipment under unusual conditions. SpaceX has not announced any eclipse-related research agenda in Lerma, leaving the purpose of the reported meeting ambiguous.

Eclipse demand boosts local tourism

Lerma’s situation symbolizes a wider scramble for accommodations along the Spanish eclipse path. Hotels and rural sites in Burgos have been receiving international bookings years ahead of the event, with groups coming from the US, Japan, and other European nations.

This influx presents an economic opportunity for local hotels, restaurants, and transport services. It also strains roads, emergency services, and small communities whose infrastructure isn’t built for a sudden visitor surge. Authorities advise early arrivals, avoiding roadside stops, and staggering departure times.

Public access remains key to the event. While wealthier institutions and private groups can book entire venues or specialized viewing areas, the eclipse itself is visible from many towns and open spaces along its path. Safe viewing still requires certified solar viewers during each partial phase.

The convergence of scientists, tourists, and media teams in Burgos shows how a fleeting celestial event can transform a region’s economy and public life. It also underscores the importance of accuracy. As Europe faces broader questions about trust in science and public information, the alleged SpaceX booking should be viewed cautiously unless the company, Paradores, or an identified organizer confirms it.

Just what we needed—Elon Musk holding court in a 17th-century palace while the rest of us scramble for a spot on the pavement to catch a glimpse of the eclipse. Bet the locals are thrilled to share their picturesque streets with a horde of space nerds and their fancy gadgets! 😂🛸

Imagine a bunch of rocket scientists huddled in a historical palace to stare at the sun—classic SpaceX, eh? Bet they’ll need more than just a telescope to figure out how to get their heads out of the clouds! 😏

Seems like SpaceX is trading in rockets for rooms—who knew Elon had a flair for hospitality? 😏 I guess you need a swanky palace for all those “scientific” discussions during an eclipse! 🕶️💼

Since previous rules expired, EU tech platforms have been legally barred from voluntarily flagging child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
