Brussels – Slovenian Minister Bojan Kumer welcomed the European Commission’s action plan for affordable energy, presented at the end of February, ahead of the EU energy ministers’ meeting. He advocates for more specific measures at the EU level and greater flexibility for member states to cut administrative costs for both businesses and households.
A key aspect of the plan involves developing new guidelines for calculating costs associated with network usage. Kumer stressed the need for a gradual adjustment to the methodology for network fees. He also noted the importance of supporting those who invest in clean technologies while ensuring that the right signals are communicated to those who have yet to adopt clean energy practices.
European Energy Commissioner Dan Joergensen stated that the affordable energy initiative aligns with the Commission’s imminent plan to achieve complete independence from Russian fossil fuels.
Kumer remarked that “the future certainly does not lie in fossil fuels.” He emphasized that Europe must focus more on diversifying its energy sources, enhancing domestic production, and boosting competitiveness.
On the reliability of the United States as an energy supplier under Donald Trump’s leadership, Kumer suggested it is essential to observe the direction of U.S. policy over the coming years, particularly concerning energy.
“I am confident that the energy ministers within the European Union will reach a unified stance, though it is important for each minister to consider the specific circumstances of their respective countries,” concluded Slovenia’s minister for energy, climate, and environment.
