Slovenia Offers Conditional Support for 90% Emission Reduction Proposal by 2040

Ljubljana – The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy has conditionally endorsed the proposal to amend the European Climate Law, which aims for a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 compared to 1990 levels in Brussels. They emphasized the need for a supportive framework to ensure the goal is achieved in a fair and effective manner. The non-governmental organization Focus has indicated that the EU should aim for net zero emissions by 2040.

The ministry expressed Slovenia’s support for the European Commission’s proposed amendment to the European Climate Law, which was approved by the College of Commissioners on Wednesday. Slovenia advocates for a credible, science-based target that aligns with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

“We conditionally support the proposal for a 90% reduction in net emissions by 2040, provided a supportive framework is established, including regulatory, financial, and social elements, to ensure a fair and effective achievement of this goal. The proposal includes a detailed analysis of its impacts, which we will closely examine while formulating our official position,” they stated.

The ministry noted that Slovenia must rigorously implement the measures outlined in last year’s National Climate and Energy Plan to meet this goal, which will also require updates following the adoption of more detailed regulations.

Focus views the proposed amendment to the Climate Law as a significant advancement but believes it is too far off. Taj Zavodnik, a professional associate from Focus, characterized it as an expensive compromise, asserting that the EU should achieve net zero emissions by 2040 based on scientific recommendations. He criticized the Commission for yielding to pressures from certain member states and members of the European Parliament, stating that “we need decisive action, not accounting tricks.” (July 2 and 3)

Slovenia’s throwing around support for a 90% emissions cut like it’s confetti at a wedding—conditional, of course, because who doesn’t love a good “if” in a serious proposal? 🎉 Let’s hope the supportive framework doesn’t turn into a bureaucratic labyrinth—cheers to that! 🍻

Oh, Slovenia’s on board with cutting emissions by 90% by 2040—if we throw in a supportive framework, of course! Because who doesn’t love a good “conditional support” in a climate crisis? 😂

Conditional support? Sounds like Slovenia’s playing hard to get with Mother Nature. 🤷‍♂️ “Let’s cut emissions, but only if we get the right snacks and cozy blankets first!”

Slovenia’s “conditional” support for a 90% emissions cut sounds like the classic European way of saying, “Sure, I’ll help you move, but only if the weather’s nice and I’ve had my coffee.” ☕💼 Fancy a bit of climate diplomacy while we’re at it?

So, Slovenia’s on board with slashing emissions by 90%—as long as they get a nice little support package, eh? Classic politicking, promising the moon while asking for a cozy blanket first. 😂

Slovenia’s jumping on the eco-bandwagon with a conditional thumbs-up, as if saying, “Sure, we’re all for saving the planet, but can we get a side of regulations and financial supports with that?” 🤑🌍

Oh joy, Slovenia’s all in for those bold plans—90% emission cuts by 2040, as long as everyone plays nice and holds hands, right? 😂 Just what we need, more regulations to tell us how to breathe!

Slovenia’s all-in for a 90% emissions cut by 2040, but only if the stars align and someone else foots the bill. 🙄 Classic ‘let’s support this with a side of conditions’ move, mate!

Oh great, Slovenia’s got its conditional support ready, just like a waiter with a well-prepared menu, but I can already smell the bureaucracy cooking up a nice little delay on that 90% reduction. 🍷💼

Oh great, Slovenia’s on board for that 90% emissions cut by 2040—just as long as they get a nice little “supportive framework” and maybe a few pastries to go with it. Typical, isn’t it? Can’t wait to see how that “detailed analysis” turns out! 😂

Slovenia’s all in for a 90% emissions cut by 2040—just as long as we get a proper “supportive framework” first. Can’t wait to see how that unfolds; it’ll be like watching a slow train wreck in slow motion, innit? 😂

Oh, lovely! Slovenia’s got a “conditional” thumbs up for cutting emissions—so generous! I suppose that means if the weather’s nice and everyone’s feeling cheery, we might just hit that 90% reduction by 2040! 😂

Slovenia’s all aboard the eco-express, but only if they get a first-class ticket to a supportive framework—how very avant-garde! 🚂💨 Let’s just hope it doesn’t stall at the ‘conditional support’ station!
