Brussels – Ministers from EU member states responsible for telecommunications convened in Brussels to discuss the digital decade policy program, collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union, and mobile roaming issues. Aida Kamišalić Latifić, representative from the Slovenian Ministry of Digital Transformation, highlighted the urgent need for the prompt integration of Western Balkan countries into the EU’s mobile roaming framework.
During the meeting, the European Commission presented updates regarding mobile roaming agreements with countries seeking EU membership. Kamišalić Latifić urged for expedited procedures and the evaluation of legal pathways to facilitate the rapid and complete incorporation of Western Balkan nations into the EU mobile roaming system.
She further emphasized that ensuring competitiveness in the provision of electronic communication networks and services is crucial for the digitization of industry and the overall competitiveness of the EU, particularly with regard to pan-European operators.
Slovenia also advocates for the advancement of cross-border, multistate initiatives in the realm of digital infrastructure, aiming to enhance existing technological solutions and innovate new ones, as outlined by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Additionally, active support for the research and implementation of 6G technologies and other advanced systems is essential to minimize reliance on non-European solutions, according to Kamišalić Latifić. (December 6)
