Slovakia to Oppose EU Sanctions on Russia if They Harm National Interests, Fico Declares

Slovakia will oppose any EU sanctions on Russia that harm its national interests, stated Prime Minister Robert Fico on Sunday.

His comments follow the Slovak parliament’s approval of a resolution on Thursday, urging the Bratislava government to avoid supporting new EU sanctions against Russia.

“If sanctions are detrimental to us, I will not support them,” Fico mentioned during a televised news conference on Sunday. “I aim to be a constructive participant in the European Union, but not at the cost of the Slovak Republic.”

Classic Fico, always the diplomat—unless it costs him a kroner or two. Guess Slovakia’s national interests don’t include playing nice with the EU! 😂

Oh sure, let’s be “constructive” while keeping the cash flowing from our pals in Moscow—classic diplomatic ballet! 💃 Maybe we can all just hold hands and sing Kumbaya while avoiding any real responsibility, eh? 😏

Oh, how noble of Fico to keep Slovakia’s “national interests” front and center—because nothing says “team player” quite like saying “not my circus, not my monkeys” when the EU comes knocking. 🤷‍♂️

Classic Fico, always ready to play the balancing act like a tightrope walker at a Bratislava circus. Who knew national interests could be so flexible? 😂

Oh brilliant, who knew a Prime Minister could juggle national interests and EU politics like a circus clown? 🎪 Just what we need, more theatrics while the rest of us are just trying to keep our coffers full! 😂

Oh, isn’t it adorable how Slovakia suddenly remembers it has interests of its own? Must be nice to play the EU game with one foot still in the Russian camp. 😉

Oh joy, another brilliant strategy from our beloved PM! Who knew putting national interests first would be such a groundbreaking concept? 🙄 #Visionary

Typical Slovak move, innit? Staying true to national interests while playing a cheeky game of ‘how to keep friends and influence Euros’—bet the rest of the EU is just thrilled! 😏

Oh, brilliant! So, Slovakia’s version of diplomacy is “We love EU, just not when it pinches our pockets.” Classic move, mate! 😏

Looks like Slovakia’s playing a game of “who can be the least European” – lovely to see Fico prioritizing national interests over collective responsibility, eh? Classic move, like bringing a baguette to a bratwurst party! 🍞😏

Oh, brilliant strategy, really—why support collective action when you can just look out for number one, right? 🤷‍♂️ Classic Fico, always keeping it local while the rest of us play in the big leagues.

Classic Slovak move, eh? Always ready to play the EU game, just as long as the rules don’t mess with our national goodies! 😂🔍

Looks like Fico’s taking a masterclass in EU diplomacy: “I’ll support sanctions, just as long as they don’t put a dent in our wallet, cheers!” 🍻
