Slovak PM Fico Warns of Potential EU Collapse Within Six Months

Bratislava (Eurotoday) – Slovak PM Robert Fico warns the EU could collapse in six months due to the selfishness of major members like France and Germany.

In a national broadcaster STV transmission, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the European Union could blank” rel=”noopener”>collapse within six months due to the selfishness of major members like France and Germany.

Let’s not be surprised at what might happen to the EU. I fear that [negative changes will happen] in the sake of the selfish national goals of these big countries [of the union],

the prime minister stated.

The EU could crumble like a house of cards in six months,

Fico said.

In his opinion, prominent EU countries are prioritizing their own interests within the union at the expense of shared objectives. He predicts challenging times ahead, characterised by instability. The Slovak PM also highlighted that the EU should respect the outcomes of elections in sovereign nations, even when the winning political forces seek policies that differ from the bloc’s collective vision.

I will defend Slovakia’s national interests within the EU very firmly,

Fico noted.

He added that he is ready to veto any proposals presented to the European Council for support if they could potentially damage Slovakia. The prime minister also stated that in the coming week, he would travel to Brazil, where he would examine the Brazilian-Chinese plan for a peaceful concession of the conflict in Ukraine with the country’s leaders.
