Resler Advocates for MIA: North Macedonia Must Capitalize on the Current Focus on Enlargement

Skopje – According to MEP Karlo Ressler, co-chair of the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee, North Macedonia is currently in a pivotal position that should be leveraged in light of changing geopolitical circumstances, which are bringing the issue of EU enlargement to the forefront across various EU institutions, not just the European Parliament.

Ressler, who visited Skopje for two days with his fellow European Parliament colleagues from the Joint Parliamentary Committee, expressed confidence in North Macedonia’s dedication to its European aspirations. He stressed that the main message from the delegation was to encourage all parties to concentrate on the future.

“After two decades as a candidate country, it’s understandable that there is a sense of frustration in North Macedonia due to numerous complex bilateral issues that have tested the trust and patience of its citizens,” Ressler noted.

He emphasized the importance of seizing the current opportunity, as the stability of the present circumstances may not last long. “This requires tangible results and reforms. We held discussions with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament,” he added.

When asked whether the EU might accelerate the integration process following the recent changes in the US administration and shifting geopolitical dynamics, Ressler acknowledged the growing significance of the issue.

“Europe continues to navigate an increasingly perilous global environment, where significant changes can occur suddenly. In this context, the question of enlargement has indeed gained importance. There is a heightened awareness that the area between Croatia and Greece should not be regarded as a gray or black space, but rather as an integral part of Europe. The true process of European integration will only be completed when all six countries of the Western Balkans become part of the European family. I believe this imperative is recognized,” concluded the Croatian MEP. (March 1)

Oh, brilliant! After 20 years of waiting, North Macedonia might finally get its act together and join the EU—who knew all it took was a few geopolitical shifts and a sprinkle of MEP charm? 😏 Just hope they don’t trip over their own feet on the way to the family reunion!

Oh, brilliant! Just what we need – decades of frustration neatly wrapped up in a two-day visit from an MEP who’s finally noticed North Macedonia exists. Maybe next time they’ll bring a cake to celebrate those “tangible results” we’ve all been waiting for. 🎉😏

Just what we needed, another lecture on “leveraging” our geopolitical position—because nothing screams stability like waiting for two decades, right? 😂 If North Macedonia plays its cards right, maybe one day we’ll all be sipping espresso in Brussels, reminiscing about the good old days of being a candidate! ☕️✨

Oh, joy! Another politician telling North Macedonia to seize the moment while we sip espresso and watch the clock tick on those “tangible results.” Must be nice to have a two-decade-long warm-up before the race officially starts! 🇲🇰⏳

Oh, fantastic! After two decades of waiting, North Macedonia might finally get a VIP pass to the EU party—better grab the champagne before it runs out! 🍾 Meanwhile, I guess all those complex bilateral issues were just part of the warm-up act, eh? 😏
