Bratislava – The national level of trust service provision is set to improve, alongside enhancements within the European community. This initiative is a result of an amendment to the Act on Trust Services for Electronic Transactions within the Internal Market, recently signed into law by Slovak Republic President Peter Pellegrini. A key feature of this amendment is the introduction of the European Digital Identity Wallet, which provides a standardized method of electronic identification for individuals and legal entities across the EU, as reported by TASR.
The European Digital Identity Wallet will facilitate secure access to both public and private services by creating a more robust ecosystem of trust services and offering verified identity proofs along with electronic attribute certifications, including academic qualifications and other professional credentials, according to the law’s proponents.
Additionally, the amendment clarifies the roles and responsibilities of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic regarding digital identification and electronic attribute certification. The Ministry will be responsible for providing the European Digital Identity Wallet to all public and private sector entities that qualify as trust service providers or have contracts with qualified providers.
Trust services encompass electronic services available within EU member states that assist citizens and organizations in digitizing processes and documents.
