Investigators have once again exposed the tactics of Russian intelligence services aimed at fostering conflict between the Polish and Ukrainian peoples, the agency stated.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for Poland’s minister for special services, announced on Thursday that a young Ukrainian, working on behalf of Russian services, vandalized buildings and memorial sites with inscriptions praising the UPA and Stepan Bandera. This act defiled locations of significance to Poles, including the Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto and the Volhynia Massacre Memorial, according to Dobrzyński’s post on X.
During World War II, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army perpetrated the ethnic cleansing of tens of thousands of Poles in what is now western Ukraine.
Despite Poland and Ukraine’s close alliance against Russia, historical tensions persist. Relations were strained in May when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy designated a Ukrainian military unit as “Heroes of the UPA,” provoking Polish officials’ ire.
The Internal Security Agency has also accused Illia K. of plotting a drone sabotage attack. If found guilty, he may face a sentence ranging from 10 years to life in prison, as reported by Polish media.
