Brussels – At the EU Council of Ministers meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, Dušan Keketi, the Minister of Tourism and Sports for the Slovak Republic, proposed the establishment of mechanisms to engage professional clubs in the sports activities of local communities. He emphasized the importance of keeping sports “accessible to everyone.” During his address, Keketi also highlighted the rising issue of childhood obesity, underlining the necessity of fostering a positive relationship between children and sports. This information was relayed to TASR by the communication department of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Keketi advocated for systemic changes to promote physical activity among children as a preventative measure against obesity. He stated, “Enhancing teaching methodologies, promoting team activities, and cultivating a connection between children and sports are essential for the future.”
The meeting was initiated by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, who underscored the importance of solidarity and inclusion in sports. Additionally, the ministers deliberated on the “key elements of the European sports model,” focusing on protecting sports values and exploring ways to foster cooperation between professional and amateur sports clubs.
