Mercosur: EU Advocates for Agreement, Aiming to Satisfy France

Brussels – The European Commission is set to endorse the free trade agreement with Mercosur during a meeting on Wednesday, marking the initial formal step before the text is presented to the member states and the European Parliament.

This agreement aims to enhance the EU’s exports of vehicles, machinery, and alcoholic beverages to Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

In return, it would ease the import of South American products such as meat, sugar, rice, honey, and soy, which could potentially threaten certain agricultural sectors in Europe.

Since the negotiations concluded last December, France has consistently voiced its concerns regarding the current draft, perceiving it as a risk to various industries, including beef, poultry, sugar, and ethanol, and has called for additional protective measures.

According to two European sources, the Commission may propose an addition aimed at reassuring France by enhancing safeguard measures for “sensitive agricultural products.” (1st September 2025)

  1. Brilliant, just what we need – more beef from South America to flood our markets while France continues to clutch its baguette. 🍞 Cheers to a deal that’s as secure as a taxi with a dodgy meter! 🚖

Looks like the EU is trying to make friends with Mercosur while tiptoeing around France’s agricultural sensitivities—because who doesn’t love a good game of culinary dodgeball? 🥩🍷

Looks like the EU is ready to play nice with Mercosur—who knew appeasing France would require a side of sugar and a dash of beef? 🍖🤷‍♂️ Just what we needed, more imports to keep our farmers on their toes!

Looks like the EU is trying to strike a deal with Mercosur—because who wouldn’t want a bit more South American sugar in their tea? 🍵 Meanwhile, France’s beef is still getting the red carpet treatment. Classic! 😏

A brilliant plan, really—let’s throw our farmers under the bus while we’re at it, just to keep France happy. Who knew trading meat for machines would become a game of culinary chess? 🥩🤷‍♂️

  6. Oh, splendid! Nothing says “we care about local farmers” quite like a handshake with Mercosur while secretly eyeing all that cheap meat. 🍖 Just what we need, right?

A free trade deal that promises to boost our fancy cars and wines while possibly turning our fields into a South American buffet? Brilliant idea, lads! 🍷🚗 Who needs local farmers anyway when we can just import the whole continent? 😂
