Knife-Wielding Man Arrested Outside Belgian Prime Minister’s Office
A potentially dangerous incident unfolded in Brussels on Monday morning as a man armed with a knife was apprehended by Belgian police outside the office of Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
“The military police successfully subdued an individual carrying a knife,” a spokesperson for the prime minister stated. “The suspect has since been transferred to a police station for processing. Fortunately, the military police officers involved were unharmed during the event.”
Authorities revealed that the man had reportedly threatened military personnel stationed near the prime minister’s office. However, as reported by local media, the suspect’s motives remain unclear at this stage.
Barend Leyts, the communications director for Prime Minister De Croo, conveyed the leader’s reaction to the incident. “The prime minister is deeply shocked by what occurred,” he said.
In a statement shared through Leyts, Prime Minister De Croo expressed his gratitude, saying, “We sincerely thank the military police for their swift and effective action. The situation is being closely monitored in collaboration with law enforcement. Above all, we are relieved that no injuries were sustained during the incident.”
As investigations continue, the Belgian government remains vigilant to ensure the safety of its officials and citizens.
