Macron Advocates for Increased Regulation of Social Networks in Europe

Paris – “Our folly is evident. These are platforms designed to sell targeted advertising,” stated Emmanuel Macron at the Peace Forum in Paris, which features discussions on global governance.

He noted that “the primary purchasers of fake accounts are the Russians (…) aiming to destabilize European democracies.” He added, “We are experiencing interference on steroids.”

Macron argued that these platforms operate “on a model that seeks to generate maximum excitement, leading to increased traffic to boost their advertising revenue, thereby upending the meritocratic principles that underpin our democracies and disrupting the relationship to argumentation and truth.”

He emphasized, “On the social network ‘X,’ if you don’t encounter far-right content right away, it indicates poor organization.”

In this context, Macron declared, “We will pursue a much stronger agenda for protection and regulation in Europe.” (October 29, 2025)

Regulating social networks? Brilliant idea, Emmanuel! Because nothing says “freedom” like a bureaucrat deciding what we can and can’t see on our feeds. 😏📜

Seems like Macron’s got a new hobby: babysitting social media! Next stop, regulating cat videos and avocado toast – because that’s what will save democracy, right? 😏🧐

  9. Imagine that, a politician finally realizing that social media isn’t just a platform for cat videos and brunch pics! Who knew? 🙄 Better buckle up, folks, regulation on the internet is coming like a fine wine – a bit late, but let’s pretend it’s worth the wait! 🍷😜

Oh, brilliant! Because when I think of safeguarding democracy, I immediately think of extra regulations from politicians who probably can’t even navigate their own social media accounts. 🙄 Just what we needed—a sprinkle of bureaucracy on top of our already complicated lives!

Oh, marvellous idea, Monsieur Macron! Because who wouldn’t want a bureaucratic safety net for their social media scrolls? 😂 Just what we need – more regulations to ensure our daily dose of online chaos comes with a government stamp of approval! 🍷

Typical Macron, right? Regulating social networks to protect democracy is like putting a lock on the door after the thieves have already moved in – jolly good luck with that, mate! 😏

Oh, fantastic! Just what we need—more regulations to “protect” us from ourselves. Because obviously, if there’s one thing we Europeans love, it’s someone telling us how to think! 😂
