Le Pen: Europeans Must Buy French for Nuclear Protection

“Deploying our nuclear weapons in nations purchasing American F-35s presents a major contradiction,” she stated.

Macron’s plan to potentially deploy fighter jets is part of a broader effort to strengthen nuclear cooperation. He also revealed plans for joint nuclear exercises but emphasized that the ultimate decision to launch nuclear weapons remains solely with the French president, who will independently define the nation’s vital interests.

For months, the far right has accused Macron of considering a surrender of France’s nuclear sovereignty, following his openness to strategic nuclear collaboration with European allies in recent years.

The National Rally leads current polls for the 2027 presidential election, potentially placing the far-right party in charge of one of Europe’s only two nuclear arsenals.

Le Pen is the party’s designated presidential candidate, but an upcoming appeal decision regarding her trial for EU fund embezzlement might require her to hand over candidacy to National Rally President Jordan Bardella.

The pair issued a joint statement following Macron’s address, detailing their party’s stance on nuclear weapons.
