Genk, Belgium, 29 August (Eurotoday Newspaper) – KRC Genk delivered the response they needed by beating SK Beveren 4-0 at the Cegeka Arena on Friday, putting last weekend’s damaging 4-4 draw with Royal Antwerp behind them. The KRC Genk vs SK Beveren match was effectively decided before half-time, with Genk scoring three unanswered goals before adding a fourth after the break.
Rafiu Durosinmi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the ninth minute before Junya Ito doubled the advantage ten minutes later. Josué Kongolo made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute, while Joris Kayembe completed the scoring in the 74th.
Why Genk needed such a strong reaction
The scale of the victory mattered because Genk entered the game needing to demonstrate greater control. Against Antwerp a week earlier, they had allowed a commanding advantage to disappear late in the match, raising questions about their ability to manage games when ahead.
Against Beveren, Genk avoided a repeat. They were clinical when opportunities arrived and built a three-goal advantage before the interval. Beveren made three changes at half-time and enjoyed more attacking possession after the restart, but Genk protected their goal and eventually struck again through Kayembe. Beveren’s official match report acknowledged that the visitors improved in the second half but could not find a goal.
The clean sheet was therefore almost as important as the four goals. It provided an immediate answer to the defensive concerns created by the previous match and gave Genk their second league victory of the campaign.
What the 4-0 result means for both clubs
The KRC Genk vs SK Beveren result leaves Genk with seven points from four Jupiler Pro League fixtures and a record of two victories, one draw and one defeat.
For Beveren, the situation is more difficult. The promoted side have three points from their opening four league matches and have now suffered another heavy away defeat. Their task will be to ensure those early results do not develop into a longer struggle near the bottom of the table.
Genk, meanwhile, must prove that Friday’s performance represents genuine progress rather than simply one comfortable evening at home. Their attacking quality was evident, but maintaining defensive discipline against stronger opponents will provide a more demanding test.
What will Genk and Beveren face next?
Genk’s challenge is now consistency. A four-goal victory offers confidence, but the pressure will return quickly if the defensive problems seen against Antwerp reappear. The KRC Genk vs SK Beveren performance showed what the side can produce when it combines attacking efficiency with control at the back.
Beveren will have an opportunity to respond at home. Their next league fixture is against OH Leuven at the Freethiel on Sunday, 6 September, according to the club.
For both teams, the next matches should offer a clearer indication of whether Friday
