Greece’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Resigns Over Degree Fraud

Lazaridis obtained a diploma from the College of Southeastern Europe, an inactive private institution whose credentials lacked formal recognition as degree-equivalent. After moving to work with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, his wife immediately took over his former role.

In interviews this week, Lazaridis defended his record, refusing to justify his credentials to opposition parties and denying any alignment with “all left-wingers.” However, on Thursday, he offered to refund any compensation he received inappropriately.

On Saturday, Lazaridis announced his resignation, aiming to let the government and agriculture ministry continue their work “without distraction,” while accusing opposition parties of “toxic attacks” and “slander.”

PASOK, the main opposition party, swiftly criticized the Mitsotakis administration. Lazaridis’s resignation “highlights just how vulnerable the prime minister is,” PASOK stated, “Ultimately, he initiated his own departure, seeing that his acknowledgment of defrauding the state wasn’t sufficient for dismissal in Mitsotakis’s view.”

Brilliant move, really. Nothing says “I’m a serious politician” quite like resigning over a diploma from a ghost school—next up, I hope he launches a new career in stand-up comedy! 😂🎓

  2. Just when you thought the political circus couldn’t get any more entertaining, here we have a minister with a diploma from a ghost college—must be a new trend in higher education! 🤣 Guess his wife’s qualifications include knowing how to pick up the pieces, eh? 🍷

Looks like the only thing growing in Greek agriculture is the amount of paperwork needed to cover up a dodgy diploma. 🍷✌️ Who knew that a degree from an inactive college could be a ticket to political fame? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Lazaridis thought a degree from a ghost college was a solid investment—who knew fake diplomas weren’t a currency in the political marketplace? 😂 Maybe his wife can teach him a thing or two about job security while he’s at it!

  5. Isn’t it splendid when a diploma from a ghost school trumps actual qualifications? The Greek political scene just keeps serving us with top-notch comedy! 😂🕵️‍♂️

Oh, the drama! Just when you thought the Greek government couldn’t get any more *academic*, a diploma from a ghost school takes center stage! 😂 What a delightful way to keep the agricultural sector on its toes while we play musical chairs with ministers! 🍅📚

Just what we needed, a Deputy Minister with a diploma from “nowhere” trying to pull a fast one! 🙄 Maybe next time he should consider a degree in spinning tales instead of agriculture.

Looks like grabbing a diploma from a dodgy college is the new European pastime—who needs credentials when you have charm, right? 😏 Cheers to the next family member stepping in; it’s like a soap opera, but with more olives and less plot! 🍿

  9. Imagine being so accomplished that a non-existent diploma gets you a seat at the big boys’ table—what a time to be alive! 😂 At least his wife is clearly a quick learner; she must be thinking, “Well, I can do this with my eyes closed!”

Ah, just another day in paradise, where a degree from an invisible school is all it takes to run the show. Maybe next time, they’ll just hand out diplomas with a side of tzatziki! 🍽️😏

Looks like our Deputy Minister took “fake it till you make it” a tad too seriously! 😂 With a diploma from a ghost school, no wonder his wife was quick to step in—someone had to keep the charade going!
